"Yeezus, can't believe I didn’t know Kim Kardashian’s husband wasn't Canadian!"

Toronto mayor John Tory has been on the receiving end of some good natured ribbing over the past couple days after he said on Wednesday that he’s “smart enough to know” that Kanye West is “a proud product of our music industry here [in Toronto].” Backtracking after being informed that Kanye is from, you know, Chicago and saying he wished the artist chosen to close the Pan Am Games had been a Canadian didn’t seem to help, so he did what we all learn to do in elementary school – he decided to join in and make fun of himself.

Earlier today the mayor posted a video to his social media accounts of him popping in a pair of headphones and educating himself by pumping Kanye’s “Stronger” as he walks into the St. George subway station. Endearingly dad-head-bopping along to the tune, he eventually grabs a seat on the subway and while flipping through a Toronto newspaper, reveals Kim Kardashian’s Rolling Stone cover issue which he pauses on and then joyously dives into.

It’s no doubt a reference to his radio interview comment: “All I can focus on with Kanye West is who he is married to,” but someone should have reminded his social media team what type of publication the ‘magazine hidden in other print media’ trick is typically used for. In any case, it was pretty jokes and I’m sure people will ease up on him a bit for being a good sport. Until his next inevitable gaffe, that is.
