He plays author R.L. Stine and is as charming as ever.

Goosebumps is back and you don’t even have to stroll by the book fair to embrace the silly-n-scary fun.

(Legal Advice: Do not skulk around book fairs asking children if they’ve seen Goosebumps. That’s a disaster waiting to happen on a variety of levels.)

The big screen adaptation of R.L. Stine’s treasured kids lit horror series now has a trailer to go alongside the hopes and dreams of optimistic ’90s kids. Going off what we’ve seen in the preview, this Jack Black starring flick will have a major Jumanji feel to it with the plot revolving around fearsome creatures that have come to life and need to be plunked back in their storybooks. Does Black play the beloved author in this film? You bet your sweet Slappy he does.

The tone seems to be cheerfully daffy rather than anything approaching The Babadook, which makes sense because this movie is aimed at a younger demo even if swarms of twenty-somethings buy tickets in advance. Speaking of tickets, Goosebumps makes its way to theatres on October 16.

Trailer enthusiast beware, you’re in a for a scare.
