Watch a video of their extra-uncomfortable interaction.

From questionable meme posts to transphobic comments about Caitlyn Jenner, Snoop Dogg‘s behaviour of late has been less than exemplary. While visiting the eastern coast of our fair country he managed to take things to a whole new level.

The artist known for about five minutes as Snoop Lion caused quite a furor when he showed up in Truro, Nova Scotia to film his guest spot on Trailer Park Boys. Not only did his presence incite a cellphone camera frenzy, he also inspired the rise of The Weed Kid. It was all fine and dandy until a CBC reporter and her camerawoman began interviewing the rapper while actor Mike Smith in full Bubbles character stood by his side. Watch the uncomfortable video clip here.

Reporter: “How’s the hospitality?”

Snoop: “Hospitality’s been awesome baby I like your camera girl too she thick.” (Lack of punctuation is intentional; dude didn’t even pause between the two points). “Damn, I wasn’t even looking down like that and now I’m forced to look down at the camera – lookie there, lookie there.”

The reporter tries to do the “I’m a professional, I’ll smile this off” thing but is so incredibly astounded she stumbles for words for a good five seconds before changing the topic. Mike Smith, as always, manages to stay in character — but it’s easy to see even he was momentarily thrown for a loop. If the camera had zoomed in on those coke bottle glasses I guarantee a “what the f___ just happened?” would have been screamed from his magnified eyes.

In subsequent interviews, camerawoman Stephanie Clattenburg said she also tried to laugh it off at the time but the experience was “creepy and awkward” and that he shouldn’t “get a free pass because he’s a rapper.” Saying she felt embarrassed and belittled, she noted that “it’s OK to joke and it’s OK to compliment women but you can do those things in a way that’s not belittling.”
