After public outcry led to the cancellation of a public Action Bronson Yonge-Dundas Square appearance, NXNE has annouced Shad as the replacement headliner for Sunday, June 21.

Shad will join NÜE, Casey Veggies, and Ty Dolla $ign for the free outdoor show. Read the full announcement below.

We’re big fans of Shad and we’re thrilled that the London, ON rapper is taking time out of his busy hosting schedule (for CBC’s q) to close out NXNE 2015. He headlines Sunday night’s free, all ages show at Yonge Dundas Square – joining previously announced artists NÜE, Casey Veggies, and Ty Dolla $ign.

Shad will bring material from across his four albums – three of which ended up on Polaris Prize shortlists (2007’s The Old Prince, 2010’s TSOL, and 2014’s Flying Colours). It’s smart rap from a critically acclaimed, talented, and JUNO-winning lyricist who’s absolutely one of the best hip hop voices in Canada. As Pitchfork wrote in their TSOL album review: “The Kenya-born, Ontario-raised rapper has been pegged by the faithful as a new standard bearer for positive rap… [It’s] spiritual without being preachy, righteous without being self-righteous, and human without sounding mundane.”

It will be a headlining set that’s fun for the whole family. We can’t wait to see everyone there.
