For a generation of kids who wanted to express their feelings, a mixtape was the ultimate gift. Mixtapes soon also became a mandatory part of the road trip. Listening to the perfect mix in the car was a rite of passage. In the 1990’s, mixtapes rose to prominence in underground genres of music that were not yet commercially acceptable. Hip-Hop and EDM can credit their rise to the mixtape: the culture-changing juggernaut of the 20th century.
