“True” was the first piece of recorded audio we got from Dan Boeckner’s latest outfit Operators almost a year ago, and while it was followed quickly by the summer 2014 release of EP1 and consistent word-of-mouth buzz from live shows since, “True” got another bump recently when it was featured in the season finale of Girls. Now, we’re happy to be premiering the track’s official video by director Brook Linder.

“The concept for ‘True’ came from taking another look at the paranoid conspiracy films of the ’70s,” Linder says. “We’re sort of going back to those in this current atmosphere of government weirdness and paranoia. That was something Dan (Boeckner) and I really wanted to project. And structurally I wanted to see how little information you could get from a montage and still understand what was happening. ‘True’ definitely speaks to the power of genre iconography: you see that first walkie talkie and you totally get what this is and where we’re going. Also, how many zooms can we fit in one video?”
