Since their formation in 2010, Toronto’s The Auras have been sharpening their brand of druggy, interstellar psychedelia. With two EPs under their belt—EP and the Optical Sounds-released EP2—the band’s built a rep for smoked-out guitar explorations, fusing ’60s-owing psychedelia with modern shoegaze. It’s easy to get lost in, which is why this post has taken me, like, two hours to write.

But I digress. The Auras are currently prepping a split with Tess Parks, and today, we’re stoked to premiere a video from the forthcoming release, titled “Islands in the Sea.” The track’s a slowburning piece of tripped-out pop, but the accompanying visuals—assembled by photographer-videographer Laura-Lynn Petrick—is the perfect accompaniment, layering kaleidoscopic segments atop live footage of the band, all tied together with VHS fuzz.
