Vancouver bomb threat was actually just an old Walkman

On Tuesday, a Vancouver ferry was shut down and evacuated after a suspicious package was found on it early in the evening. Bomb-sniffing dogs were deployed, and the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was on site to manage the situation.
Fortunately, it wasn’t a bomb — though, 30 years ago, it might have been da bomb. Because as the Province reports, the suspicious package that sent people into a panic was actually just an old Walkman.
Fittingly, the retro player was discovered by a robot, who quickly discovered it was harmless. And while to us this sounds like the plot of a Short Circuit spin off, the threat was real enough to cause more than three hours of delays in Vancouver.
“It was in a hidden location under a seat. Given the appearance and location, we had to err on the side of safety,” said Transit Police spokesperson Anne Drennan.
“The device that we were looking at was an old style Walkman music player,” she explained via the CBC. “It was very unusual looking.”
We had to err on the side of caution. Apologies for everyone for the inconvenience … but there’s no other choice. You have to deal with it as if it could be a real explosive device.
Err on the side of caution and safety as they did, it turned out the only thing explosive coming out of this device were a series of dope ass ’90s beats. You heard that new Ma$e yet? Bro. It’s tight.
