For the last three years, the Prism Prize has been annually recognizing the best music videos in Canada. Like the Polaris Prize, which celebrates the nation’s best album, the Prism is decided by a jury of media members, and in the past, they’ve awarded the $5,000 grand prize to Rich Aucoin’s classic “Brian Wilson is A.L.I.V.E.” and the Arcade Fire’s “Afterlife,” directed by Noah Pink and Emily Kai Bock respectively. And this year, there’s a whole new crop.

Some of the names are familiar: Rich Aucoin returns with a new album, Ephemeral, and from it, a new mind-altering video for “Yelling in Sleep.” Calgarian oddball genius Chad VanGaalen makes a dent in the shortlist with two efforts: His own video for “Monster” and Timber Timbre’s “Beat the Drum Slowly,” both of which he directed. Kevin Drew’s body buttered “You in Your Were,” complete with a Zach Galifianakis appearance, also made the cut. As do Kandle, Toronto faves Pup, Odonis Odonis and… well, let’s just say there’s a lot of amazing videos nominated in 2015.

The grand prize is announced in Toronto on March 29, at TIFF Bell Lightbox. Further, beyond the shortlist, the Prism will be awarding an Audience Choice Award—we’re voting for New Swears—a Special Achievement Award, and the Arthur Lipsett Award, recognizing innovation in music videos.
