There were countless labels that made their name in 2014, but our favourites—from Warp to Drag City to PC Music—range from upstart to established. Vancouver-based electronic tape label 1080p, for example, had a giant year curating everything from highbrow techno to future R&B; Brooklyn-based Scissor & Thread released everything from jazzy electronics to post-techno; and Royal Mountain, the Toronto-based label that released records by Pup and Alvvays, continue to emphasize quantity over quality.
