Goble contributed to some of Canada's best punk bands—the Skulls, the Subhumans, and D.O.A.

Vancouver’s early punk scene was strange, wonderful, and fertile—it spawned the Skulls, the proto-hardcore legends DOA and, of course, the Subhumans (not to be confused with the British band of the same name). Bassist Brian “Wimpy Roy” Goble spent time in all three bands, and today, we’re saddened to learn that he has died at age 57.

The Vancouver Sun reports that Goble passed away from a heart attack yesterday afternoon. His influence will continue to loom large over Canadian punk: He helped from the Skulls with Joey “Shithead” Keithley, moved onto the Subhumans—who put out two LPs in the ’80s before disbanding—before joining DOA as a bassist and backup singer.

The Subhumans would eventually reform in 2006, releasing New Dark Age Parade and Same Thoughts Different Day, which was a re-recording of the Subhumans debut album. R.I.P., Brian.
