Bob Marley isn’t just a legendary reggae singer. Instead, to the longboard set, he’s a brand that’s as recognizable as Starbucks: You can find his dreadlocked visage adorning flags, hawking nutritional beverages, selling ethically farmed coffee, and even selling the People Get Ready Jammin’ headphones. Oil pipelines may run beneath Western Canada, but there’s also a pipeline between the bougie hippie haven of Salt Spring Island, B.C., and the Marley Estate’s bank account.

Now, the “Easy Skanking” singer’s estate is expanding. Nameley, they’re getting into the weed—and not just weed paraphernalia—game. The estate has announced that they’re launching a brand of legal herb called Marley Natural, which, they say, will be inspired by the heirloom herb that Tuff Gong smoked. According to their site, you’ll be able to buy their goods in 2015.

And this isn’t just wishful thinking: the Marley-branded kush, reported the LA Times, will be supported by Seattle-based Privateer Holdings, who will infuse millions of dollars into the brand, which will also produce Jamaican cannabis-inspired lotions and sun repair creams.

So, why has Privateer chosen to invest in Marley Natural? Easy: They know that your eccentric neighbour Adam—you know, the one who hangs Tibetan prayer flags from her garage, will purchase the shit out of Marley weed. And the world, confirms the firm, is full of Adams.

“What appealed to us was the global reach of the Marley brand,” said Privateer CEO Brendan Kennedy. “He has 74 million Facebook fans around the world. There really aren’t any global brands in this industry.”

Marley Natural says they’ve already identified a few strains Marley smoked, and have been consulting seed banks—those strains, they say, are named Chocolope and Pineapple Skunk (yum). No word on how we’ll get the stuff in Canada, but Marley Naturals—which will carry ole Bob’s signature on its labels—will set up a supply chain in the U.S., in states where smoking is legal.

“He viewed the herb as something spiritual that could awaken our well-being, deepen our reflection, connect us to nature and liberate our creativity,” Cedella Marley, Bob’s daughter, said in a statement.

And she’s right. “When you smoke herb,” he famously said, “it reveals you to yourself.”
