South Park’s 18th season is off to an odd start, first introducing newfound continuity between episodes—remember, this is a show first popularized by one of its four main characters gruesomely dying each week—and later with its ongoing digs at teenage sensation Lorde.

But while its second episode seamed to be taking a cheap shot at the “Royals” singer by depicting her as middle-aged dad Randy Marsh, its follow-up turned the joke into a larger commentary on gender identity and the major label music machine. Thematically, it’s a lot to dig into, so we won’t. Instead, let’s focus on the show’s hilarious interpretation of Lorde’s music, which consisted almost exclusively of the hook, “Ya ya ya, I am Lorde.”

Ever the bigger person, Lorde took the parody in good spirit. After tweeting about excitedly being featured on two episodes of the long running series, Lorde covered South Park’s spin on her sound during a recent interview with a New Zealand TV station.
