Profits from Run the Jewels' new project will go to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

Run the Jewels rule. I know, I’m supposed to be objective, but it’s true. And I don’t just mean musically.

Part of the hype surrounding their much anticipated, soon-to-be-released second album is its crazy list of pre-order packages, including but not limited to packages where they’ll hang out with you, smoke your weed, and let your mother cook for them.

Among these packages was the eye catching Meow the Jewels offer, which for $40,000 would see Killer Mike and El-P remaking Run the Jewels 2 entirely with cat sounds. But nobody would pay that much for something so silly, right? Wrong.

Because Kickstarter exists, fans started crowd funding the package last month. Yesterday, they hit their goal. Today, with 11 days left, the campaign has a surplus of nearly $10,000. And because the duo have already said they’ll make the album happen if it hits its goal, and as the project picked up steam, a slew of their hip-hop peers have signed onto help.

Now that it’s happening fans aren’t just going to get an album of El-P and Killer Mike rapping over cat sounds, but an album of cat-collaborations from super-producers like Dan the Automator, Just Blaze, Prince Paul and Zola Jesus, who’ll add their trademark styles to… an album of cat noises for El-P and Killer Mike to rap over.

It’s silly. It’s ridiculous. It’s totally happening, and the duo have already promised to donate profits to the families of Eric Garner and Mike Brown.

There’s no release date yet, and with RTJ2 support ramping up before its October 27th shelf date, Meow the Jewels could take a while before it happens. But it will almost definitely be worth the wait. Check out its trailer here:
