I think its been a slow week for new music, based on the quality (or lack of) of what’s been coming into my inbox. No matter, there’s still enough to put together this playlist and I’m betting you’ll find some new gems. Take a spin of the September 26th edition, plus read our assessments below the player.

1. “Nara” by Alt-J

This song is slowly becoming my favourite track off This Is All Yours, even comparing it to the well played singles “Left Hand Free” and “Hunger Of The Pine.”  I think it’s the dark tone Alt-J takes here, with such a cinematic feel. This track is destined to soundtrack something striking in a film. I’m betting on it.

2. “Riptide” by DWNTWN (Vance Joy)

I actually really like this song, but because of certain radio stations and their obsession with playing it every hour of the day, I’m excited to hear a new band (and voice) covering it. LA band DWNTWN put a synth-pop twist on the track, take a listen (if you’re not sick of the song just yet).

3. “Disorderly” by Baths

Southern Californian producer William Weisenfield (aka Baths) has tipped us to a new track titled “Disorderly” that will be featured on a compilation EP, Whats Good Los Angeles?, being put out through Friend of Friends and Vans OTW. Sounds cool.

4. “Tools” by Yellerkin

This next track comes from Brooklyn-based duo Yellerkin, a new track called “Tools.” Musically, think Local Natives meets Grouplove meets Hooray For Earth. Honestly, stick it out all the way through this track, there’s tons of variety, especially when it takes you to the dancefloor at three minutes.

5. “Toxins” by Mating Ritual

Rising from the ashes of California band Pacific Air is the solo project of Ryan Marshall Lawhon called Mating Ritual. A great starting point is the poppy, synth-heavy “Toxins.” Take a listen.

6. “Getting It On” by Sales

SALES is a collaboration between long-time friends Lauren Morgan and Jordan Shih. Their self-titled debut EP is a collection of singles including the sultry “Getting It On.”

7. “Hymnals” by Grizfolk (RAC remix)

I’ve been keeping up with the news coming from Grizfolk’s camp, recently hearing a few remixes online from their debut EP “From The Spark.” The latest is RAC’s signature spin on “Hymnals.”

8. “Sway” by Anna Of The North (The Chainsmokers Remix)

As of right now, this is #1 on the Hype Machine top 50, and for good reason. In my opinion, the remix improves upon the original with a better suited rhythm, yet stills showcases her stunning vocals.

9. “Snow In Newark (with Dawn Golden)” by Ryan Hemsworth

Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth is back with some new music, “Snow In Newark” featuring the vocals of Dawn Golden of Houses. I’m liking this new direction for him, interested to hear more.

And that’s my top 9, got any to add?
