Bryan Adams might not be the first name we think of when it comes to straight politicking, but for as long as he’s been in the public eye the iconic “Summer of ’69” singer has been vocal in his opinions. And so when he took to Twitter this weekend to call out Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s lack of, well, anything regarding the conflicts in Gaza, we took notice.

Of course it didn’t take long for the stupid replies to fly in, responses about Canada “not supporting terrorists” among them. But for Adams, the actual political and religious struggle is secondary to the Helen Lovejoy-like statement he’s for decades been trying to make: “Won’t somebody please think of the children?”

Check the hashtag. While Adams has supported an embargo against the religious state, he’s an advocate for the country’s youth. Through The Bryan Adams Foundation, which works to advance education for children around the world, he has in the past helped give computers to young Palestinians. While the Huffington Post is quick to note detractors questioning his “right to speak on behalf of Canadian politics,” a by all accounts stupid argument Adams was quick to destroy, he has in the past shown a willingness to put his money where his mouth is.

Here, he’s demanding Harper do the same.
