UPDATED 11/07/2014: The speculated spot has been approved, with Global News announcing to day that Toronto city council voted this morning to have the sign installed at 277 Victoria Street, on the northeastern corner of Yonge + Dundas square. Can’t wait to see it lit up again!

We’ve been wondering for years what would happen to the iconic Sam the Record Man sign. When the once-popular chain closed its flagship location in 2007, selling its lot to Ryerson a year later, the promise was that the Toronto university had promised to revive it at some point. And then that didn’t happen. But after years of promises, reneging, rumours and backtalk, Toronto Life is reporting that the sign has potentially finally found itself a new home.

Seen above in a crude mockup rendered by the city, the sign that’s found itself in countless movies and music videos might soon be seen above 277 Victoria Street, a city owned, Yonge + Dundas Square adjacent building that overlooks the city’s busiest intersection.

Still, looks like it’s a little high up, no?

If you’ve been keeping up, Ryerson said this past November that the sign would be back, inviting media outlets to see the sign, which the thad been storing in pieces in the outskirts of Concord, Ontario.

We ended up hypothesizing 23 potential locations for the sign even earlier in the dispute, none of which were picked. It’s a shame, too: Jilly’s is closing, the opportunity is now!
