Toronto snot rockers Pink Wine and Halifax pogo punks Outtacontroller were brethren on our list of rising Canadian garage bands, but they’re also bestest buds IRL, too. If you catch Pink Wine in Nova Scotia—as we did during last year’s Pop Explosion—expect to see the Outtacontroller fellas front and centre, shouting along to “Don’t.” Whenever Outtacontroller visit Hogtown, expect to see Joel French and co. spilling their Stiegls all over the stage—we’re wagering that they committed every word of Remote Control to memory. We hate to use the term “bromance,” but in this case, well, it’s kind of unavoidable.

As is their new cassette, Outtawine. Kicking off with two Echo Chamber-recorded Outtacontroller tracks—including the hilariously tragicomic “I Gave Up on Weezer,” which we can totally relate to, and a cover of Pink Wine’s “Cold Sweats”—their split foreshadows the Haligonian act’s forthcoming LP Television Zombie, set for release via Mammoth Cave. Pink Wine’s half, meanwhile, features two blasts of buzzsaw power pop: A cover of Outtacontroller’s “Put it On High” and “Wasted Breath,” which should tide us over until they leak their new tracks, which they’ve been recording with Fucked Up / Career Suicide mastermind Jonah Falco. The cassette’s tracks, though, were handled by Toronto punk stalwart Sam Coffey, whose much anticipated Gates of Hell LP drops this June.

Grab the cassette at the forthcoming Ottawa Explosion—Outtacontroller play on Friday, June 13 with the Creeps, the Famines, and White Wires; Pink Wine play with the Manadates, Mother’s Children, and more. Following that, they play Toronto on June 26 with Radioactivity and Bad Sports.
