For anyone graduating from college or university, first: congrats! And secondly, we really, really hope you enjoy your convocation, where you’ll surely have to sit through speeches from honourary degree recipients—I, for one, had Miriam Toews. This year, Merrimack College awarded one to Charlie Day. P. Diddy’s getting one from Howard University.

Those names, however, are highly decorated. But who ever expected Pitbull to earn an honourary degree from anyone?

The answer: No one. Which is why we were surprised when, on Twitter, the rapper posted a photo of himself with a degree from Doral Collage—check it up top. In it, the rapper’s grinning ear to ear, in graduation garb, and is giving a Zach de la Rocha-worthy fuck-you-I-won’t-do-what-you-tell-me middle finger.

We’d be the first to congratulate the Pit, except for one thing: He got a fake degree from a fake college.

As Gawker reports, the college itself isn’t accredited. Their website states that “Doral College is a non-accredited institution. All students should be aware that due to its current status students will not be eligible for financial aid, transfer of credits to other institutions, or to sit for professional exams in career related fields.”

Meaning, of course, that courses and degrees aren’t recognized by… well, anyone. In fact, the school is a joint venture between a high school—Doral Academy Prep—and a for-profit company called Academia. So, as a non-accredited college, it would naturally have a tough time attracting students—which it doesn’t.

Indeed, no post-secondary students attend Doral. It only teaches high-school students.

“For now, there aren’t any college students actually attending Doral College,” notes its site. “The institution is licensed to provide a bachelor’s degree … [but it has] has focused solely on high schoolers while trying to earn accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which can take years.”

What this means? A fake school—which was named for a golf course—just gave Pitbull a fake honourary degree which, we can only assume, is worth nothing. Thanks, Doral.
