For us, the rising mercury signifies on thing: We’re playing “Summer Girls” on repeat. As perfect as LFO’s hit single is, though, we won’t be able to listen to it all summer. Thankfully, 2014’s already serving up loads of all-time summer bangers—so many, in fact, that we had a hard time narrowing down our top 10 releases of the month. (Real talk: We initially had 12 picks.)

Leading the charge is Owen Pallett, who released his career-defining In Conflict just weeks ago. While the violinist became one of indie rock’s most celebrated names, he makes it clear—to the backdrop of some of his most self-assured songs yet, Pallett doesn’t perch himself on a pedestal. Instead, when we caught up with him, he talked about humility, accessibility in music, and how the music media fucking sucks. (Except us, right??)

The fun doesn’t stop there: Jokers of the Scene, the powerhouse Toronto-based electronic duo, stop in to talk about their atmospheric techno full-length, End Scene. Hamilton Leithauser talks about how his sprawling, big-band solo crooners are a departure from his work with the Walkmen. Mother’s Children, meanwhile, bring the garage-punk heat—as if Ottawa’s punk scene could get any better.

Then, there’s the distinctly summery fare: We’ve detailed a list of our favourite Canadian jangle pop bands, because honestly—there’s nothing better than a sugary Slurpee paired with non-stop sugary hooks. And, of course, one of our favourite summer festivals—NXNE, doye—lands, and we’ve assembled an infographic of what do see, eat, and listen to this year. See you there, yeah?

Also: This issue marks the second anniversary of AUX Magazine! Which, for us, is a big cool milestone, and one we couldn’t have done without you swiping away with us. Thank you for reading. Never change. You’re the best.
