KP Swazy is the Executive Vice President and Head of Content at internet mixtape mecca DatPiff, and in advance of his participation in the Evolution of the Mixtape panel at this year’s NXNE, he outlined, in no particular order, his top 10 mixtapes for AUX. Cool.

Wiz Khalifa – Kush & OJ

“This was the mixtape that really put Wiz Khalifa and DatPiff on the map. Our biggest and most impactful release to date.”

Mac Miller – K.I.D.S.

“Mac Miller’s breakout mixtape. A project I was heavily involved with and the feeling of seeing the success of this mixtape was incredible.”

Lil Wayne – Dedication 2

“Most would argue this is Lil Wayne’s best project to date. I’d argue it’s not, but it is his most solid mixtape and one I turn to the most.”

Big Sean – Detroit

“This mixtape was an unexpected gem. We all knew Big Sean could rap, but he REALLY went in on this project and made it one of the hottest ever in my book.”

DJ Green Lantern – Invasion 2: Conspiracy Theory

“Rewind back to the days before DatPiff. I owned a physical copy of this Green Lantern tape and it featured exclusive new music from Eminem, G-Unit, and more.”

Meek Mill – Dreamchasers 2

“Meek Mill’s breakout project. His buzz was already growing with ‘House Party’ and ‘Tupac Back.’ This mixtape put him over the top. Solid all the way through.”

The Weeknd – Trilogy

“Perhaps my favourite ‘mixtape series’ of all time. Abel came out of nowhere a few years ago with House of Balloons and hasnt slowed down since.”

Wiz Khalifa – Cabin Fever

“The first time we got to really hear Wiz Khalifa rap. Using industry beats and bringing in dope features from Big Sean and more, this projects embodies what a mixtape is.”

Fabolous – The Soul Tape

“Fab is known for his punchlines and references. The timing of this Christmas Day release sent fans in a frenzy over the records he had. Many argue Fabs mixtapes far outweigh his albums.”

Gucci Mane – Trap Back

“It couldnt be a top mixtape list without one from Gucci Mane. Trap Back was my personal favorite project because of the production, the point Gucci was at in his career (happy and free), and the features fit perfectly.”

KP Swazy will partake in the Evolution of the Mixtape panel on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Toronto (370 King Street West). Get full details here.
