Today is a “put everything back together” day.

This always happens when I leave town for a business trip—I’m never able to keep up and on top of things while I’m away. Today, I’ve got an inbox too big to handle, way too many loose ends that need sorting out, and probably thousands of things I missed from checking my daily blog feeds. Not to mention, I’ve come back from the MIDEM conference burnt out, jet-lagged and dazed.

I found a gem in my inbox in Lowell‘s latest track, “Cloud 69,” from the I Killed Sara V. debut EP (Out February 25 via Arts&Crafts). The EP opener features her “riotous and sensual vocals” backed by a frenzy of chaotic drum fills and heavy basslines; leading me to believe there couldn’t be a better way to start a record. Lowell found success last year through the release of 2012’s If You Can Solve This Jumble, a collaborative mini-album which she wrote and recorded with the super group Apparatjik (featuring Grammy Award winning producer Martin Terefe with members of Coldplay, Mew, and A-ha). In 2013 she killed it at CMJ and toured all across Europe. I predict that 2014 will be an even bigger year for her.

Take a listen to Lowell with “Cloud 69.”
