As celebrity doppelgangers go, there are few pairs as similar-looking as Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer and actor-comedian Will Ferrell. Until now, though, neither man has acknowledged their similarities; comparisons amongst the two gangly, curly haired men were only traded amongst their fans. But last week, finally, Ferrell acknowledged his similarities to Smith.

“It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, share a resemblance to each other,” Ferrell wrote in a Reddit AMA last week. “A lot of people think that it’s me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith.”

He followed up the AMA by posting the following video to Funnyordie’s Instagram.

Ferrell’s claim that he was, in fact, Chad Smith, delighted fans. Especially since the drummer once wore a shirt proclaiming, “I am not Will Ferrell.”

Smith, predictably, maintained that Ferrell was impersonating him. (We’re not sure who to believe anymore.) The drummer then posted his own video, saying, “Stop impersonating me…. I need you to drum battle, me and you, I’ve seen yours skills—you don’t got ’em. Golden cowbell, me and you.”

Here’s the video Smith (or Ferrell? Or Smith?) posted.

So, there you have it. Ferrell hasn’t yet responded to the challenge, but we’re expecting a good old fashioned showdown.
