It’s never a good sign when you have to quantify something as horrifying as homophobia with words like “shockingly,” but Christian rapper Bizzle has earned those adjectives and more with his shockingly homophobic response to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love.”

Called “Same Love (A Response),” Bizzle’s track opens by calling this “gay thing” a media conspiracy, saying he “can’t even disagree without making it a hate thing,” and if that sounds baffling, just wait.

Bizzle quickly builds a strawman on race relations before comparing gays to pedophiles and their sexual orientation and urges to not cheating on your spouse.

“Keeping your desires oppressed is so lame to you, but when you get married that’s what you expect your mate to do,” raps Bizzle. “It angers you if I compare you to a pedophile (why?), cause he’s sick, right? And you’re better how?”

From there, Bizzle goes from homophobe to paedophile apologist, rapping “you were never a girl, he was once nine. So at one time in his life it was just fine.”

And so on and so forth.

While there has been an argument against Macklemore for how he’s handled the success of the self-proclaimed LGBTQ anthem, the sentiment perseveres. Because for every hokey award show marriage blitz there’s an impressionable ear struggling with his or her own sexuality, and while Macklemore may not be the ideal spokesperson for the struggles of a minority group, he’s projected the issues to a wider audience. In the end, that means a lot.

Much like how Macklemore & Ryan Lewis don’t speak for all gays, it’s fair to say Bizzle doesn’t speak for all Christians. What he’s doing is capitalizing on the coattails of a hot button issue, trending on an explosive commercial success as much to promote his opinions as his career. This isn’t a first for Bizzle, whose “Beware Pt.1” was a response to Watch the Throne’s “No Church in the Wild.”
