That headline is unfortunately not a typo—after months of denial and multiple court appearances, Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has pled guilty to 13 sex offence charges, including two for the attempted rape of a baby. BBC Wales clarifies that he’s pleaded guilty to the rape attempts and not the actual act, not that it excuses just how monstrously horrible this entire situation is. In June, Watkins denied 24 charges against him, an accusation that included possession of “extreme pornographic images involving animals.”

He’ll be sentenced on December 18th and will in all likelihood spend the rest of his life in the gutter, where he belongs. More specifically, he’ll be forever labelled a sex offender and paedophile.

For Watkins, the case has been ongoing. His sentencing will mark almost one year since he was first taken into custody for the charges, which date back to incident in 2007. AltPress notes his plea includes two counts of taking indecent photographs of children, but the truly horrifying incidents go back to 2012, when he allegedly recorded the attempted rape of a young child (alongside the child’s mother) in a London hotel room.

Watkins had allegedly sent a text to one woman that said “if you belong to me, so does your baby,” while court documents say that two mothers involved in the case sexually abused their children alongside Watkins.

Prosecuting barrister Chris Clee QC told the court that drugs played a part in the offences, but the extent of which has to be stated to be believed. Police found meth, cocaine and GHB in searches against Watkins, but the story goes one step further with word that the disgraced vocalist had planned to “teach” the babies how to do drugs. Not sure what that means, but it sounds fucking horrible.

Rightly, the rest of the band has distanced themselves from Watkins. They cancelled all remaining tour dates immediately upon his arrest, and earlier this year announced on Facebook their decision to cease all operations under the Lostprophets name.

This is hard news to take not just for fans, but for people with, y’know… hearts.
