As we do every morning, we started the day off with a quick glance at our Twitter mentions. Aside from the usual shares (thanks!), the follows (thanks!) and the spam (we agree, our avatar is pretty sexy!) we spotted something unusual: our name in a few “conversations” with @TOMayorFord, the official account of controversial Toronto politician Rob Ford. It seems that Mr. Ford tagged us in a passing reference to his upcoming trip to Austin to sign the Austin-Toronto Music City Alliance Agreement. Also tagged? The Canadian Tenors.

Curiously, whoever runs the Rob Ford account seems to be bumbling in tribute to the Mayor, aimlessly tagging random Canadian artists like Metric and Ron Sexsmith in regards to his Texas-trip.

Ron Sexsmith replied with a simple “Yes indeed.”

Neither Metric nor Dragonette have gotten back to Ford.

No word on what the Reid Army thinks of this association. As we learned way back when we posted a painting of him as a donkey, they can be pretty defensive of the short-statured singer.

Rush got the biggest call out from Ford, first in a joint mention with Platinum Blonde (ha!) and later with Drake, who joined the Mayor at a press conference earlier this week to talk about Toronto’s successful bid for the 2016 NBA All Star game.

So who’s next on Ford’s tweet-spree? Maybe Skye Sweetnam or Blue Rodeo? There’s no rhyme or reason to this, so we’re just going to sit back and enjoy the ride. And if you’re not, be sure to follow AUX on Twitter!

Rob Ford heads to Austin, Texas, tomorrow to solidify and sign the Austin-Toronto Music City Alliance Agreement, a music-based partnership between the two cities.
