An all-star lineup of Sarah Harmer, Gord Downie & the Sadies, Hayden and Minotaurs are set to play a free show at Toronto’s Mel Lastman Square this Sunday afternoon in protest of Enbridge’s proposed changes to Line 9, which would alter the 38-year-old pipeline with increased capacity and dangerous substances.
“Enbridge’s Line 9 proposal puts the drinking water of millions at risk of an oil spill,” said Environmental Defence’s Adam Scott in a statement. “Ontarians shouldn’t have their water threatened – just to benefit the bottom lines of oil companies.”
Sarah Harmer agrees.
“The Line 9 proposal puts communities all across Southern Ontario at risk of a tar sands oil spill,” she said. “It also risks the dangerous release of carcinogenic chemicals into our air. The more I learn about the likelihood of pipeline ruptures with the Line 9 plan, the more convinced I am this plan needs to be rejected.”
The Rock the Line conert is set for 2PM at Mel Lastman Square this coming Sunday, October 6th. It’s free, and for a good cause—Environmental Defence is asking Ontario to at the very least provide a full environmental assessment of the proposal. They think Ontarians deserve to know how the changes could impact the environment, and we happen to agree.
