When we say Max and Iggor Cavalera are working with James Murphy, we’ve got to clarify which one. Metal heads will immediately think of James Murphy of Death, Testament and Obituary fame, but the former Sepultura brothers are instead about to work with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem fame, making the entire prospect far further left-of-centre.

In an interview with The Guardian, drummer Igor Cavalera says he was convinced by Murphy to form a “metal version of the White Stripes” with his brother Max, most recently of Soulfly fame.

Iggor originally wanted to have Murphy work on a new Cavalera Conspiracy album, but this looks like it might be something entirely different.

“He basically asked me to get rid of the rest of the band. Cavalera Conspiracy has four members and two records,” said Igor. “Murphy asked us to start from scratch as a duo. According to him, ‘this will come to be the heaviest record of our careers. He promised me that.”

For fans of Arise, Beneath the Remains and even Chaos A.D., that’s saying something. We’ll follow this as it develops, but in the meantime, can anyone tell us when Igor Cavalera started going by Iggor? Where’d that extra ‘G’ come from?
