We’ve told you about Danny Brown’s problems getting across the border, and now one fan is doing his best to help get the rapper into Canada with a new petition. It’s not doing so hot just yet, with only 70 signatures at time of publishing, but its intentions are honest and, frankly, necessary.

“Danny Brown is of significant cultural importance within the music community, and has many, many fans of his work in this country,” reads a statement on the peition’s page. “He is not a significant threat to the security of our nation, and i feel that his entry denial is unfair, biased, and potentially racially motivated.”

The petition is aiming for a pretty loft goal of 10,000 signatures, so if this is something you believe in by all means sign it. Still, there are questions as to whether this can actually accomplish anything. As the petition states, again perhaps a little dramatically, the Harper Government has been “continually been fighting a war on the arts in Canada,” and we’re not sure an online petition can really change that.

What it can do is draw attention. When word got out of new, exorbitant fees plaguing international artists trying to cross into Canada for gigs at bars and restaurantes, a similar petition was started. In just over two weeks, it has more than 133,000 signess. This Danny Brown petition is in contrast less significant, but it adds fuel to the fire.

Sign it here. And if you haven’t yet, sign the Change.org petition to abolish the $425 fee destined to hurt Canada’s music scene, which depends on international acts to put butts in seats.
