By now there’s no way you haven’t heard about In Utero‘s 20th anniversary, but celebrated last week Nirvana’s latest milestone did come with one thing you might not have listened to yet: “Forgotten Tune,” an unreleased song by the iconic trio.

By now there’s no way you haven’t heard about In Utero‘s 20th anniversary, but celebrated last week Nirvana’s latest milestone did come with one thing you might not have listened to yet: “Forgotten Tune,” an unreleased song by the iconic trio.

Less refined than their last unreleased track (“You Know You’re Right), “Forgotten Tune” likely remained unheard for so long because it’s not exactly good. Clearly an outtake or jam session, the song is completely instrumental and incredibly raw. Still, there’s something there. It lacks a lot of the nauseating sheen that hindered their most commercial tracks, adding an odd twang to their sludgy roots.

I mean, it’s no “Stairway to Heaven,” but for fans, it being unreleased is likely enough. Check it out up top, but be sure to ignore the awful intro, which isn’t part of the song.
