Drake releases "Wu-Tang Forever," his sort of tribute to the iconic hip-hop clan that really doesn't sound anything like 'em.

When Drake revealed the track list for the mega-hyped Nothing was the Same, a song called “Wu-Tang Forever” stood out immediately. And today, Drake released it.

The track might not be what you expected, but sometimes it’s hard to know what to expect from Drake. An almost unrecognizable sample of the Clan’s “It’s Yourz” carries the song’s methodical, brooding beat, and Drake’s borderline tone-deaf hook somehow adds to it’s overall feel. It’s not the song Wu-Tang fans might want, but the twist is it’ll probably get some of Drake’s young fans into the iconic hip-hop collective.

“Wu-Tang Forever” isn’t a tribute, but an interpretation. For more than three minutes, Drake plays up his sad-guy superstardom, wrapping his melancholy edge in flamboyant gold wrapping paper. The song says hip-hop is Drake’s to take, but if that’s the case, why’s the guy sound so beat up about it?
