It’s long overdue, but after 21-years fronting Amon Amarth one of the most passionate Viking storytellers has finally be cast as one. Accoring to Blabbermouth, singer Johan Hegg has been cast in as a Viking warrior named Valli in the upcoming Northmen – A Viking Saga.
Currently set for release in 2014, the movie is undergoing production in South Africa for some reason, where Hegg will join fellow cast members Tom Hopper, Ryan Kwanten and Charlie Murphy.
“The mythology behind our Viking heritage is engrained in everything we do and it is awesome to have the opportunity to be part of Northmen – A Viking Saga,” said Hegg. “This is going to be one epic adventure and I cannot wait to be on set with my co-stars and this fantastic filmmaking team!”
For the uninitiated that might be reading this confused, Johan Hegg is the bearded tree of a man that since 1992 has fronted Amon Amarth, the most popular Viking themed metal band around. An unexperienced actor, we’d expect Hegg’s role to be pretty minimal, but at an imposing 6’3 you can probably still expect to notice him.
We talked to Hegg earlier this summer before Amon Amarth’s set at Toronto’s Rockstar Mayhem Festival, where he talked about the growing interest in vikings. What we didn’t realize that when he mentioned there were a bunch of movies coming out was that he’d be in one. Sneaky, that guy.
