Forget bacon strips: this YouTuber beatboxes his way through Dream Theater's hyper-complex "The Dance of Eternity," complete with rotating flash cards to highlight its 108 time changes.

When it comes to beatboxing, Dream Theater covers probably aren’t the first thing that springs to mind, making the above video all the more impressive. YouTuber Roboyette might be exaggerating when he calls “The Dance of Eternity” one of the most rhythmically complex songs in the rock and metal world, but as he points out its 108 time changes, the fact remains: this isn’t your straight-forward “bacon strips” beat.

Watch as he cycles through Mike Portnoy’s complex drum performance on the song, all the while cycling through flash cards indicating when the song does things like inexplicably change from 4/4 to 5/4 to 17/16 time.

Yes, it sounds silly—it’s still beat boxing—but when it comes to a dude spitting all over his desk, this is one of the more unique takes we’ve seen. [via Metal Sucks]
