Echoing the celebrated Record Store Day but seemingly less about the store and more about the format, the first ever Cassette Store Day will take place this September 7, launching in London with live perfomances and DJ sets, and with simultaneous events in L.A., New York, Tokyo, and other “UK, US, and EU” cities. Canada, where you at?

Billed as “a celebration of a physical product that is accessible, fun, cheap, and still going strong in the turbulent current musical climate,” Cassette Store Day will see releases from smaller labels (and organizers) SEXBEAT (something from Fucked Up), Kissability, and Suplex Cassettes (Fair Ohs, Proper Ornaments), as well as reissues from Transgressive (At The Drive-In), Bella Union (The Flaming Lips), Domino (The Pastels), 4AD (Deerhunter), Wichita Recordings (Hard Skin), Burger Records, and many more.

Limited releases from the likes of Jade Tree, Faux Discx, and lots more are yet to be confirmed.

Follow the news at Cassette Store Day‘s official website. Would you shop Cassette Store Day if it happened in Canada?
