Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson have announced that the Replacements will reunite this summer to play their first shows in more than two decades this summer, revealing that they’ll play Riot Fest dates in Chicago, Denver and Toronto.

Stereogum isn’t sure of the band’s full line-up, but for many young enterprising punks this brings the first chance to see the legendary outfit live. They played their last shows in 1991, though they briefly reunited last year to raise money for former guitarist Slim Dunlap.

More shows could be coming, maybe new music, but that’s speculation we’d rather not get our hopes up over. Otherwise, Canadians can catch them on the second night of Riot Fest Toronto, which takes place August 24th and 25th. The shows promise to be pretty huge even without the addition of the Replacements, who’ll be joined by the likes of Dinosaur Jr, Rocket from the Crypt, Iggy and the Stooges and more. Non-archaic bands like The Weakerthans, the Flatliners, Grade and Every Time I Die are also getting in on the fun.

Tickets are on sale now. Unfortunately, yeah, it’s happening at Fort York. You win some and you lose some, and iffy venue aside, adding the Replacements is definitely a victory.
