How unexpected! Less than two weeks after Kim Deal announced that she was leaving the band, The Pixies have released their first new track in nine years.

This was unexpected. Less than two weeks after Kim Deal announced that she was leaving the band, The Pixies have released their first new track in nine years. Early this morning, the song was made available for free download via the band’s website, along with a music video directed by Lamar + Nik, which you can watch above.

This is the first new music we’ve heard from The Pixies since 2004, when “Bam Thwok” was released online after being written for, but not included on the Shrek 2 soundtrack.

It’s nice to hear some new tunes from Frank and the gang, but it’s somehow a touch bittersweet knowing that this may be the last Pixies song with Kim Deal’s input.
