While he’s calling it an accident, will.i.am has essentially admitted that his latest single, “Let’s Go,” is blatantly stolen from Russian producer Arty’s “Rebound.”

“I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it ’cause I asked him [to] make it newer ’cause I don’t just wanna take your song and rap over it,” he told a KIIS-FM interviewer yesterday.

will.i.am says he started writing “Let’s Go” to “Rebound” last year and eventually decided writing over the original track instead of a new version. “Something happened with the clearance… hopefully we resolved the issue.”

They didn’t.

Arty Tweeted that nobody from will.i.am’s camp got in touch over the song.

The stories over what happened have changed since “Let’s Go” was unveiled, ranging from “we were working together then weren’t” to blissful ignorance. Whatever the case, this reeks of entitlement on will.i.am’s part. If you don’t get permission to use a song, then don’t use it. It’s simple, unless you’re will.i.am.
