So, clearly we love talking about this. What was originally intended to be the Mark McGrath & Friends Concert Cruise has been re-configured as a terrestrial tour after the cruise was cancelled. The 2013 Under The Sun Tour will see Smash Mouth, Gin Blossoms, Vertical Horizon, and Fastball join Mark McGrath and Sugar Ray on a string of ’90s nostalgia-inducing North American dates this summer.

It might not be a concert cruise, but it’s still crazy that this is a real thing. We put together a little “by the numbers” analysis, to help get you ampled for the one-and-only Canadian date in Toronto at Echo Beach on July 28th. WHO’S READY FOR A LITTLE FUN UNDER THE SUN?!

Number of tour stops

Thirty-six. Mark McGrath and the bald guy from Veritcal Horizon are spending over a month together on the road? Sounds like heaven.

Highest ticket price

It’s $106.75 for the most expensive ticket to see the Under The Sun Tour in Huntington, New York. So Toronto’s getting a relative bargain then, since tickets for the Echo Beach show max out at $65.

Lowest ticket price

Free. The tour’s first stop in El Paso, Texas at the Socorro Entertainment Center will be free. In Texas, Mark can’t even give this shit away for free.

Number of bands

Five. Five bands that would make your 14-year-old niece gaze at you dead-eyed if you asked her if she’d ever heard of them.

Ticket price per band (Toronto date)

$13. Hey, it’s cheaper than a movie.

Number of top ten hits among these bands

Eight. I still can’t believe Smash Mouth only have two top 10 singles. Are you telling me “When The Morning Come” didn’t crack the top 10?

Ticket price per top ten hit (Toronto date)

$8.13. VALUE!

Years since the last top ten hit

Fourteen years! Sugar Ray had “Someday,” Smash Mouth had “All Star,” and Vertical Horizon had “Everything You Want” in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, all in 1999.

How many #1 hits do these bands have, collectively?

Two. “Fly” by Sugar Ray and “Everything You Want” by Vertical Horizon. The fact that “All Star” by Smash Mouth never actually hit #1 is somehow comforting to me.

Average age of the bands

Let’s just focus on the frontmen, because really, it’s impossible to find out the age of the bass player from Smash Mouth:

Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray) – 45 years old
Steve Harwell (Smash Mouth) – 46 years old
Robin Wilson (Gin Blossoms) – 47 years old
Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon) – 40 years old
Tony Scalzo (Fastball) – 49 years old

Average age: 45.4 years old

Average age of an audience member

Well, I’m 27, so let’s just say that this is probably the only concert I could go to all summer and actually feel young.

Number of bands with an album called Music For Cougars

One. Goddamnit, Sugar Ray.

Number of people who think this is going to be hilarious and amazing

At least one. See you July 28th, Mark.
