While Toronto-via-Kitchener’s Sam Coffey has comfortably evolved from a rabblerousing country songsmith to a party-starting garage troublemaker, his real holy-shit moment came last week, when his band, the Iron Lungs, leaked the church bell-driven “Gates of Hell.”  Recorded by Fucked Up’s Ben Cook—who, along with his solo project in Yacht Club, has quietly produced some of Toronto’s buzziest acts, such as Army Girls and Actual Water—”Gates of Hell” added a new dimension to Coffey’s suds-soaked garage: It didn’t mute Coffey’s penchant for sing-a-long choruses any, but it displayed the band’s willingness to experiment with sprawling, E-Street Band-esque heartland fare.

A week on, Coffey and co. have unveiled yet another track from their latest studio session. More manic than “Gates of Hell,” “Get Pumped Up!” displays yet another another side to the Iron Lungs, as here, they experiment with speedy, rockabilly-fuelled punk rock. It is, perhaps, a nod to the band’s decorated membership, who, along with Coffey, features members of gritty acts like Pink Wine and Non-Stop Girls. Listen to an exclusive stream of the track below:
