Bobby Brown is usually seen as the catalyst in Whitney Houston’s well documented descent into drugs, but a new interview with her mom Cissy and brother Michael reveals that she was already using by the time she met Brown.

“I’m living but I’m not alive without her,” said Michael Houston to Oprah. He, apparently, is the one who introduced her to drugs. It doesn’t excuse Bobby Brown, obviously, but it’s a revelation nonetheless. Still, Whitney’s mom says it wasn’t the drugs that killed her, even if she was found with cocaine, marijuana and Xanax in her system when she died.

“She had a heart attack,” said Cissy. Not wrong, but certainly a bit selective, no?

Michael says he lives with “the demon” of introducing his sister to drugs but tells Oprah he’s been clean since October. As for Bobby Brown, Cissy Houston says she wasn’t happy when he came into the picture. “She didn’t listen. I didn’t bother with that. She was old enough to do what she wanted,” she said to Oprah.

And that might have been the problem.  [via Salon]
