Earlier today, 190 members of HMV UK head office and distribution staff were laid off, and one disgruntled employee decided to live-tweet the events.
We’re live tweeting from the HR firing session, this is so exciting! #hmvXFactor

The heads up from the personal account were only part of it, as the responsible employee, who “assumed sole responsibility of Twitter & Facebook over two years ago, as an intern,” also broadcast the firings to the offical HMV Twitter account. The tweets were deleted shortly thereafter. “When asked (this afternoon), I gladly provided the password to head office,” the employee said. “I also set another member of staff up as a manager on Facebook, and removed myself from the admin list. I didn’t resist any requests to cooperate.” Apparently this was a wake-up call for the business to “understand the power and importance of social media.”
One of our departing colleagues was understandably upset. We’re still here thou, thx for supporting hmv thro these challenging times
