The translation of what happened at a Converse sponsored No Age show in Barcelona is rough at best (the headline reads The controversial passage of No Age for Make Noise when run through Google Translate), but the idea is clear: while playing in Spain, the L.A. based punks dedicated a chunk of their set to deriding the company that paid them to be there.

For about ten minutes, the band reportedly subjected the crowd to a video denouncing working conditions in Nike and Converse factories around the world before breaking back full tilt into their set, eventually ending it by walking off and shouting “Thanks Converse!”

And all things considered, they should be thanking Converse, both for the opportunity to go to Barcelona and for presumably paying them a bunch of cash to play the show. It makes for a great news story and you can’t argue with their intentions, but it’s certainly a bit dickish. Also, yeah, kind of funny. Thanks to Stereogum for the heads up on this and IndieSpot for the original report.
