“Reach Beyond The Sun” is the title track off Shai Hulud’s upcoming album, which might be their first worth looking forward to in years with vocalist Chad Gilbert back in the fold. While he’s most known for his work in New Found Glory, Gilbert provided vocals on the band’s debut album Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion before breaking leaving for the softer side of punk.

He’s not going to tour with the band, but this track shows that even after fifteen years and not much use his pipes still have the edge that made their debut album special. It’s their fifth album in three times as many years, but the first to feature a returning vocalist. While it’s a crapshoot trying to figure out who’s even in Shai Hulud these days, the familiarity of having Gilbert at the helm takes a good song up a notch: and as the riffs ring out, our fourteen year old selves nod in approval. Welcome back, Chad.

Reach Beyond the Sun is out February 19th through Metal Blade records.
