We’ve already talked about ad nauseum (1, 2, 3, 4) about Randy Blythe’s bullshit manslaughter charge, last telling you guys that he had been officially indicted by the Czech courts, but today things got real with word that they’ve set February 4th of next year as the trial’s start date.

“We have issued Randy Blythe with a court summons, and he is obliged to attend the hearing in person,” said court spokeswoman Martina Lhotáková to the Prague Post. “The trial will determine the culpability of Blythe, and his potential punishment.”

Blythe’s been saying all along that he’d go back to Prague for a trial, but he’s about to be put in a very, very shitty situation when he does. You might remember that his arrest led to a lengthy detainment, no support from his own government and, in spite of a complete lack of evidence, an unwavering accusation from the plaintiffs. If he’s convincted, Blythe could be going to jail for as long as ten years, and even if you’re not a fan of Lamb of God, that’s really, really unfortunate. Here’s hoping this works out for the guy.

While his lawyer says he’ll fight vigorously for the singer’s innocence, but with the U.S. Justice Department releasing a pretty useless statement on the trial earlier this week, it looks like the defense rests entirely on his shoulders. Given the precedence set in the summer, that’s no small obstacle to overcome.
