Last year I was lucky enough to be at the Molson Amphitheatre for the soundcheck to Drake’s second annual OVO Fest, which meant I got to hear a pretty extended Stevie Wonder set before the gates to the show opened. When it did, and when Stevie took the stage, I was surprised. Not just by how good he was, but by how Drake’s fans took the surprise for granted. Some even complained that it took away from Drake’s set.

This is going somewhere, I promise, because Cleveland.com reports that something similar happened this weekend at Cleveland State University. Stevie Wonder stopped by to perform in endorsement of Barack Obama. The problem is nearly nobody showed up. Horrible people can imagine their own blind joke here.

Obviously somebody made a mistake. Namely, they forgot to tell people about it. Apparently less than 200 people showed up to see Stevie sing, mostly because the gig hadn’t been promoted until an right before it happened. Scarier still, reports say that some of the people lucky enough to see one of music’s living legends only showed up after hearing, and then following, the sound of live music.

Obama for America Ohio hosted the rally and apparently forgot to tweet about it to its 34,000+ followers until 10:02 the morning of the show. Stevie went on at 10:30.

Derp? Derp.

If you haven’t heard it yet, here’s Stevie Wonder’s song in support of Obama. It’s… weird. Probably better than the Boss’, though.
