Fast food chains inexplicably using heavy metal to sell product is nothing new, and Quiznos is the latest to jump on the bizarre trend with this commercial for National Cookie Day, which is a thing that exists in the United States.

Obviously inspired by Dragonforce, right down to the Herman Li lookalike on vocals, the commercial is a 55-second example of what every outsider sees as the quintessential power metal song—fast, fabulous, falsetto filled but not without a virtuosic flair. Also, the song is really bad. So basically, it’s “Through the Fire and the Flames” but six minutes shorter.

(If you’re lost on just what exactly Power Metal is, we tried to teach you about it here)

This is the kind of thing that brings the metal community together, if only because “hey! that’s a reference we understand!” It falls somewhere in between Metalocalypse, which uses puns instead of jokes, and a game like Brutal Legend, which uses the genre as its backdrop. Mostly, though, it gives us something to bitch over. And being barons of the internet, that’s usually all a metal fan could ask for. [via MetalSucks]
