Florence and the Machine drummer almost missed a gig after locking himself in the crapper

A member of Florence’s Machine was apparently late to the stage at the band’s gig in London last week after he locking himself in the shitter.

“I didn’t know whether to say it on stage because I didn’t want to embarrass him, but he got trapped in the loo. He was screaming,” said Florence Welch, who explained that the venue’s staff had to take the entire door off of its hinges to get him out. To recap: she didn’t want to embarrass him on stage, so instead took the story to the national media. Derp.

NME says the incident happened before the band was set to play BBC Radio 2 host Jo Whiley’s show at the Rivoli Ballroom.

There’s a solution to this: like when One Direction singer Niall Horan’s bathroom prompted fear of pigeons led to him hiring a bird-thwarting security team, we might suggest that Hayden brings in the buddy system next time he’s got to pinch one off. Awkward? Sure. But it’s better safe than sorry. That this is the first time we’ve heard his name suggests that the gears in this machine are more than replaceable, and we’re betting more than a few drummers know their way around a doorknob.
