As a child of the 90s, it’s impossible to watch Sufjan Stevens’ new video for “Mr. Frosty Man” without being reminded of Clayfighter, the classic Interplay fighting game series that first appeared on the Super Nintendo back in 1993.

Okay, so there’s the obvious Evil Dead reference, with the video’s main character attaching a chainsaw to his arm, strapping on a boomstick (and with the clip’s considerable, cartoon-y gore), but the entire Lee Hardcastle-directed video plays kind of like an extended claytality.

Granted, the Frosty in this video is considerably less bulky than the game’s Bad Mr. Frosty, but hey, maybe it’s a prequel? An origin story? Or maybe we’re just grasping at staws at this point, because the song is pretty bland on its own and everyone loves 90s nostalgia. They do, right?

Merry Christmas! In 61 days!
