It's music competition television season, what with "X Factor" and "The Voice" both rejoining the airwaves last week, and that means means a whole lot of butchered covers of pop chart-toppers. And rather than link you to a compilation of washed-up judges trying to out-snark each other on their way to the Neilsen ratings mountaintop, we thought we'd instead show you a cover done right.

And wouldn’t you know it, it’s from a former reality show contestant! Kelly Clarkson is just wrapping up her summer tour and all along the way, she’s been tackling the occasional hit from one of her contemporaries’ catalogues, be it Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem or, in this case, Rihanna. It’s not easy to take a song from someone who could be considered a musical rival and not pale in comparison, but Clarkson definitely does this one justice.
