People unfamiliar with the sport like to think Jay-Z owns the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets when in reality he has less than a one percent stake in the team. But his affiliation with the newly relocated franchise has added an edge to his already diverse portfolio, and it seems Justin Timberlake’s hoping to follow suit. But he’s not buying stake in the Knicks or the Lakers.

Instead, ESPN reports that he’s looking to buy into his home town Memphis Grizzlies with the sale of the franchise from Michael Heisley to Robert Pera.

The report says that Timberlake “plans to be active” with the franchise, which we hope means he’s going to make a Like Mike-like movie (say that three times fast) for them like Kevin Durant did with Thunderstruck. And what does Kobe think of this now that Timberlake might not be there to pat him on the ass at every Lakers home game?

What if he starts making music again, though? Will he toss references to Rudy Gay and Tony Allen into his tracks? Only time will tell. Will he, Jay-Z and Will Smith (who recently bought part of the Philadelphia 76ers) start beefing? Because that would be awesome.
